8 cups cold water, divided
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon Hawaj
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
Combine 3 cups of water, sugar and Hawaj in a pot or sauce pan stir well and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain syrup to remove any Hawaj that did not dissolve. (this is not a necessary step, only for appearance).
Add remaining 5 cups of cold water and 1 cup of lemon juice to the syrup and stir. Serve in tall glass over ice or pour into a pitcher. Makes about 10 cups.
