Za’atar Beef Kababs

1 lb. sirloin steak, cut into 1 1/2” cubes
4 tbsp. Za’atar
3 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 cup whole milk yogurt
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp chopped mint
1 red onion, cut into wedges
1 red pepper, cut into wedges
Pita bread
6 wooden or metal skewers*
Crumbled feta cheese (optional)

  • Combine olive oil and Za’atar to make a paste.
  • Combine 2 tbsp of paste with the yogurt, lemon, salt, and mint. Mix well and set aside to use as a dipping sauce.
  • Toss steak with remaining paste.
  • Preheat broiler or prepare grill.
  • Thread steak, onions, and peppers onto whetted wooden (soak wooden skewers in water for 30-60 minutes) or metal skewers
  • Cook until meat registers 130°F on an instant read thermometer for medium rare, 140°F for medium. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Serve with crumbled feta cheese, chopped mint, yogurt dipping sauce, and warmed pita bread.
